Study/crafting room/wrapping room
If Martha can have a whole room dedicated to wrapping then surely I can have a little add on to a desk. I figure if I add a couple of Ikea GRUNDTAL rails to either the underside of a desk or mount them on a wall they can be used to hold the paper so I can simply roll it off effortlessly, because unrolling wrapping is so difficult 🙂 I got the idea from ikea hackers. This is a lot more lovely looking than my rails idea, but could get in the way if it’s out all the time. I do like the wire tiered baskets filled with ribbons and bits.
I like the idea of using old wooden rulers on a small side table, not sure where this would fit in our tiny little study room though, think it’ll just be one big desk, storage and a chair.
No more new
I’d really like to try and furnish our new house with old/unwanted furniture, not just because by the time we’ve done all the necessary renovation stuff we’ll have no money left for anything new, but also because I want unique pieces that I can add our stamp to. So far I’ve managed to acquire a kitchen dresser, daybed and matching drawers all from my sister, who’s having a complete clear out. Think we’ll probably end up painting it white as it’s quite a large piece. The daybed and drawers are ikea hemnes in white, should just about fit in the small bedroom.
It’s not even close to Christmas but…
this is what I want Christmas to look like in my kitchen dining room this year (preferably this year fingers crossed)
Kitchen inspiration
Loving the idea of a white/ivory, turquoise and red kitchen/dining room. I’m not brave enough to have red or turquoise kitchen units however, think they’ll be predominately white or ivory. Mr W wants a completely wood kitchen but I’m worried it’ll be too dark and not work as well with the red turquoise colours, maybe he’ll prove me wrong. We’ve already knocked two of the downstairs rooms into one and plan on having the kitchen up one end and a nice big dining table up the other. These are some pics that have caught my eye:
shiny red retro phone ❤
I’d like a island breakfast bar, perhaps not as big as this one in the space we have
Definitely, definitely want the cooker, whether red, white or otherwise to live in the chimney breast, with a shelf above.
The house before
These are some photos of the house just before we purchased it in November 2010. It was full of old furniture and original fireplaces. Sadly the previous owner arranged for a house clearance so all the furniture went, but we still have the fireplaces and a large suspended clothes maid.
Our house

This is our new house, before we started work. I took plenty of photos of inside the house but not one of the outside so had to pinch this shot off google street view. I like the shape of the house itself but wasn’t so keen on the garage, it looks like it’s been added on in the 60’s.
